1. A 18 month old child presents with jaundice. On examination she has splenomegaly. The blood film shows spherocytes and reticulocytes. Coombs’ test is negative.

 

2. A newborn baby develops jaundice shortly after birth. Investigations show the baby is also anaemic.

 

3. A 9 month old child is brought to the GP surgery with swollen hands and feet.

 

4. A 2 year old boy of Greek origin is brought to hospital by his mother. On examination the child is jaundice. The history reveals he was treated for a throat infection 5 days ago.

 

5. A 2 year old boy is brought to A & E. His mother says he has been unwell since yesterday and that he feels hot to the touch and is pale. On examination there are several bruises on his back and he has hepatosplenomegaly.
